
Pan and Syrinx, 1746
Through the vast woods the young nymph ran,
Desperately trying to escape her pursuer.
Hooves went clippity-clop, it wasn’t a man.
She couldn’t let him get to her.
The satyr was mesmerized by her looks.
He couldn’t just let her run away.
Not like any girl in any of the books.
Why wouldn’t she just stay?
As fast as she could, she ran to the river.
Syrinx begged her sisters to transform her.
Hearing her wishes they did deliver.
The sisters changed her into cattail reeds in a blur.
Pan let out a big sigh in dismay,
Causing the wind to blow through the reeds.
He was enchanted by the sound, even though he didn’t get his way.
From the reeds he crafted a set of pipes in order to meet his needs.
He wanted to be with her always.
Crafted in that pipe she stays,
